Kang speaks:

Hi, I've made available my old Hotline code for anyone who's interested, or just for fun:

http://www.insecure.ws/archives/

You can find:

  • the latest mhxd-0.4.11
  • a windows (cygwin+.NET) GUI + mhxd
  • good old kxd ( first server with anti-gloarb's bot spam :D )
  • php-hx (an old web client, I discourage you to use it, but it works)
  • a little OpenLine fork, I'm sure today's fork are much better
  • phxd+irc, a phxd fork with IRC support (IRC client and Hotline client can connect and communicate at the same time), I believe it's still running on chatonly.org

Have fun ^^

» HX/HXD?
By Anonymous Coward @ Thursday, 18 of Oct, 2007 - 19:37

can someone explain to me what the differences are with these different variants? Where is the latest code for HX/HXD? Also why isn't HXD or some kind of hotline server found in the apt repositories for Ubuntu?

The story:
- hxd was started by ror several, several years ago (more than a decade?)
- ror lost interested and devin started shxd, a hxd with some fixes and new features
- ror got interest into it again and continued hxd with 1.5 protocol support, but lacking shxd fixes
- kang took shxd fixes and merged them into hxd, also added it's own features to it (such as antispam), called it kxd
- ror and kang though hey we do we fork each other, and merged hxd+kxd into mhxd, also added multiple protocol support (mutiplehxd.. xD)
- kang also added irc support to phxd

work has stopped on every server for at least 3 or 4 years, beside shxd which is sedomly supported (hence no presence in any distribution)

Face it, Hotline is dead :)
